Emission of light by a liquid that is
subjected to high-frequency sound waves. The
rapid changes of pressure induced by the
sound cause minute bubbles to form in the
liquid, which then collapse. Light is emitted
at the final stage of the collapse, probably
because it squeezes and heats gas inside the
bubbles.
